Peter Sinclair is a German Jew, and as a teenager managed to escape Nazi Berlin in 1939 via the 'Kindertransport'.

He joined the army with the Royal Fusiliers and went through infantry training, eventually making the rank of Staff Sergeant. Barely 18 years old and with his command of the German language, Peter found himself removed from the infantry and sent as a prisoner of war interpreter and was responsible for the welfare of many thousands of prisoners of war.

Peter has said that perhaps one of his most satisfying experiences was when some German prisoners were lined up in front of him and this German Officer marched up and saluted him to present his men for inspection. Little did he realise that he was saluting and presenting his men to this little Jewish boy from Nazi Berlin.
