School Presentation
Monday, 08 December 2008 00:00

On December 4th, we had a really delightful visit to Saffron Green Primary School in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Our president, after an exhausting time of loading up the exhibition into our bus, picking up veterans en-route, then unloading and setting up the displays in the school hall, proceeded in hosting another worthy educational WWII history presentation to the entire school, who all sat neatly in the hall.

Of course, the golden opportunity for school children to learn first-hand from the veterans once again far exceeded the limited learning from a history text book in a classroom. We certainly want to say thank you to the head teacher, Mrs D.A. Purrett, and all her staff who all made us feel so welcome and spoiled us with endless opportunities for tea and biscuits, as well as a sumptuous private lunch in the hall, served by a the school council students and especially prepared by the head cook and her staff.

We really appreciated the many letters of thanks and appreciation we received from the pupils, and a personal one from student Mitchell Rice (care of his parents). It really does make all our time and effort so worthwhile, but more importantly that the pupils learned first-hand from veterans who have served their country, which can far outweigh the learning from a textbook. Until next time, thank you all.
